The greatest compliment I can EVER receive when a couple’s family and friends look at their wedding photographs is something I feel gets looked over a lot in today’s social media frenzied world. I have seen all of these compliments many of times posted and spoken to couples. They are all worth striving for but if any of them become a photographer’s singular goal, I feel that photographer has left something incredibly important out of the equation.
“Ohhhh you got married at (insert cool/trendy wedding venue)!!”
“The sunset was beautiful at your wedding!”
“Your dress/flowers/shoes/some other detail was so amazing!”
Even “You looked so beautiful and in love!”
When you look through Kayla and Ryan’s post, ESPECIALLY you out there who know Kayla and Ryan, I just simply want you to say to yourself, “These photographs are so Kayla and Ryan.” That is it. If you say that while looking at my photographs, I have accomplished the most important task I could ever be trusted with and that is being true to who you as a couple are. Midwest weather is ridiculously unpredictable, pretty sunsets can never be a requirement to great photographs, posing may help a couple break out of their shell but should never create a narrative that is not true to them and the details of the day are important but it does not matter what wear, your kids will probably tease you for wearing exactly that. So I hope all of you out there feel like you got to know my couple just a little more and to Kayla and Ryan yourselves… thank you. Thank you for being you and letting me be a small part to your day!
