You know those gatherings where you are with a group of people you barely know… those ones where you are holding a random drink and trying to small talk with people you have very little in common? I find myself in those groups a fair amount of times. I always chuckle to myself when I am asked the typical, “So, what do you do for living Christopher?”. I love watching reactions of people when I tell them I am wedding photographer. I have a good collection of questions and comments but one common one is something along the lines of “Does is get boring shooting wedding after wedding?”. This is a real easy answer for me because I really do enjoy weddings simply because of my couples.
Every couple is different and I love seeing how that difference shows up on their wedding. Every couple I have creates a handful of special moments that stick with me and Katie and Ismail for sure had theirs. My favorite one and the one that will stay with me was Ismail and when he got to see Katie for the first time. I did not get to meet Ismail before their wedding, he wanted to come to our first meeting with Katie but they had one of those terrible, horrible, no good days! So I met Ismail the first time at his wedding when I was getting him together to see Katie for their first look. If you spend more than 12 seconds with Ismail, you quickly learn this guy is full of life, he laughs loud, he talks loud and is the friend who always brings joy and energy to those near him. Based on this, I thought he was going to be groom that pings of the walls when he see his bride. When the moment came for him see Katie and he turned something really special happened. The guy who always laughed, who always had a comeback or joke ready to fire… he had nothing. In the most beautiful way, the moment he saw Katie, he just froze. Nothing prepared him for that moment and I feel honored that I got witness it myself.
Katie and Ish, these are the moments that makes the long days, in the hot months so incredibly worth it. Thank you for letting me be a small part to your wedding!
