Katie tracked me down a little while ago with a very specific vision of a set of photographs she wanted for her and her husband Adam. The only problem she had was describing what she wanted and that is very common, I have the same troubles. I usually have this photo idea in my head and I just can not seem to get it out sometimes, sort of like a writers block for photographers. So I asked Katie not to focus on what specific photographs she wanted but more on what feelings she wanted those photographs to convey. After we started talking more on that level, it all came together very fast. The “why” she wanted these photographs was much easier to understand. After a little more than a year of experiencing their wedding and starting life together, Adam is going to leaving in a few weeks for his training and then deployment. I did some location scouting and when nothing presented itself, I pulled a phone a friend and found a great location for them.
So after Katie and I’s discussions we had this for the outline, she wanted the photographs to feel like a home country living, on a farm that could be found anywhere in the Midwest. While she wanted to acknowledge that Adam would be leaving soon, she didn’t want that to be the sole focus. She also wanted to show the contrasting style between being a military wife and her military husband. So with that outline in place, a location found, the rest was up to me and my camera… Enjoy!
